Während die Tagesschau vor allem tagesaktuelle Nachrichten in prägnanter Form sendet, sind bei 10vor10 vertiefende Hintergrundberichte, Reportagen und Interviews zu sehen. In der Regel hat jede Sendung einen thematischen Schwerpunkt (Fokus).
